by Sean Cummings
Publisher:  Rebelight Publishing
Genre: Middle Grade/mystery/humor

Hundreds of cats are missing! Fear not-Penelope Ann Pickersgill and her hippie grandma are on the case. While her friends go to cool camps, twelve-year-old Penelope has to spend the summer with Grandma Bev, who is convinced that cat-eating aliens are beaming the town's furry friends aboard their mother ship at night. Lights in the sky point to UFO's, but Penelope is sure there's a more logical explanation. With a little help from Sherlock Holmes, she and Grandma Bev set out to find the cats. Will they be able to solve the mystery before all the cats in Thornhill disappear?

The Diary of Penelope Ann Pickersgill
Dear Diary: Tina sent me six messages about her Batgirl costume along with three more pictures. She knows that I love all things Batman, so I wonder if she’s rubbing in the fact that I am at Grandma Bev’s for the summer while she gets to go to Cosplay camp. I’ve been listening to Pan flute music for the past half hour because it’s supposed to help rest my mind for a big day of sleuthing tomorrow. I signed onto my grandmother’s crazy idea that something terrible has happened to the cats of Thornhill, and to top it all off, my stomach is growling. I’d kill for a Kit Kat bar, but Grandma Bev has banned chocolate in favour of a waxy, bitter substitute known as carob. Carob is not chocolate. And the worst part? My bedroom window is open and the neighbours are having a barbecue. The air is filled with the sweet smoky aroma of hamburgers and hot dogs. Supper for me tonight is yam soup and ancient grain scones. A super healthy soup topped off with three tablespoons of kale powder. I don’t feel any healthier. I’m just hungry. I think my pants are looser too. Mom and Dad gave me a hundred dollars to spend, and I’m seriously thinking of sneaking out to the Shop & Stop to buy a chili dog. Assuming that aliens don’t abduct me first. Oh, to dream a little bit.
